I am an American naturalized citizen born in the city of Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina (Former Socialist Republic of Yugoslavia). I have left my country as a teenager during the Bosnian war. Nostalgia of my homeland is one of the driving principles in my work. This nostalgia manifests itself as a critique of what brought about the exodus of people from my homeland. Therefore main reoccurring themes revolve around ideas related to nationality, history, religion and other ideologies and their relationship to war and violence.
Through my career as a practicing artist I have worked with numerous different mediums, pictorial and sculptural but my recent works are two-dimensional animations or sequential drawings. I am interested in this particular medium because of its ability to combine sound with visual information. As well some of my animations, not all of them, are site specific and therefore they include the environment and interact with it. While some other animations are more suited to be projected on a white canvas. Another aspect that attracts me to this medium is its lack of physicality and the ability of being shared with the public in an online environment. Therefore, the ability to speak to people across the globe, without the burden of shipping paintings and sculptures, is something that I see as a positive because it is the idea that ultimately matters.
